Beauty Way

The relationship in between the heart and the white lilly, is what captured my attention ~ ~ ~I slowed down, sure not to make a ripple or take an extra breath, to reveal the perfection of this natural composition.  It reminds me of the way of life the Tsalgi nation refers to as the “Beauty Way”

Humpback Whale

Scientific Name: Megaptera novaeangliae

Pacific Humpback Whale

I photographed this whale my last week of work for Holo Holo Sailing Charters, Kauai.  I was standing next to the mast, holding on firmly while whale-spotting for our passengers, but more importantly for the safety of the whales.  Often times the whales do not move to on coming boat traffic, such as this one here. We were gliding along at about 10 knots, when I  called out to my captain, “ whale at the bow!”  Immediately we dropped the sails as fast as we could to avoid running into him. Our  cruising speed then dropped to a mellow 4 knots.  As usual my Nikon was fastened to my side, loaded with my 70-200mm lense, ready to capture a flying whale at any moment.  The whale dove beneath the boat at the last minute.  I anticipated his breech from the stern on port-side, just in time to position myself for this split second one frame shot.  Everyone shifted to the port-side of the boat, seemingly at once, which made for a doubly exciting moment for Captain Jeffrey.  As the lopsided boat balanced out, We all knew that was a special once in a lifetime moment.   After this experience I felt a true sense of completion, enabling me to retire from the boating world (for awhile at least).
